The workhorse, and the size most Long Island City and Queens jobs land on. Multi-family cleanouts, renovation phases, and anything where weight runs out before volume does.

Specifications
22 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 4.5 ft high
20 cubic yards — about 6 pickup truck loads
3–4 tons in the flat rate
About 25 ft long × 10 ft wide, plus door swing
Is this the one?
If we could keep only one container size, this would be it. Twenty cubic yards is roughly six pickup truck loads, it carries a weight allowance that suits genuinely mixed debris, and it still fits on a normal driveway or a single curb space on most blocks.
It is also the right answer on a lot of jobs where people reach for a 30. Anything with real weight in it — drywall and joint compound, plaster and lath out of an older building, a two-layer roof, tile, or waterlogged basement material — fills its allowance in a 20 long before it fills a 30's volume. Taking the bigger box just means paying for space you never use, and on a block where curb space is already tight, it means holding that space longer than the job needs.
Straight advice: The one to default to when you are genuinely unsure. It is rarely the wrong answer, and if it turns out to be too big we will tell you when you describe the job — including whether the curb space or parking rules on your block make a smaller box the easier placement.
Compare
Same flat pricing model across all five. The only question is which weight allowance matches your material — and, on the bigger sizes, whether it fits your block.

About 22 ft long by 7.5 ft wide by 4.5 ft high. Allow roughly 25 ft of clear curb or driveway length plus about 10 ft of width so the rear doors can swing open.
It can take up more than one legal spot, so we confirm the exact placement with you before delivery and pull a NYC DOT permit whenever it needs to sit on the street. Telling us your block's alternate-side schedule up front is the single biggest thing that keeps the delivery simple.
About 6 pickup truck loads, with 3–4 tons included. It is the size most Queens renovation and cleanout jobs land on because the volume and the weight allowance both suit genuinely mixed debris.
For one unit alone, sometimes — a 15 may cover it. For a multi-family building doing several units at once, or a renovation that is pulling out flooring, drywall and fixtures together, a 20 is usually the more efficient call. Describe the job and we will tell you honestly.
Delivery, the standard rental period, pickup, disposal and the stated weight allowance, all in one flat number, whether it lands on your property or on the street under permit.
